Designed of 1 oz .999 fine
silver for the "Meeting of the Widows" in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on July 1,
1997. It was an exciting day in Gettysburg where the widows met for the
first time at Lee's headquarters and shook hands and then later re-joined at the
wall of Pickett's charge, shaking hands once again to signify the uniting of the
North and the South as one.
Designed to honor Mrs. Alberta Martin, widow of Pvt. William J. Martin of Co. K, 4th Alabama Infantry Regt. C.S.A. and Mrs. Daisy Anderson, widow of Pvt. Robert B. Anderson of the 125th U.S. Colored Troops. Mrs. Martin and Mrs. Anderson, the only known widows of the War Between the States, were presented the medallion on a sterling chain which were worn as a necklace.
The medallion is suspended from a grey-blue ribbon for C.S.A. and a Blue-grey ribbon for U.S. Federal.
These medallions were made as a special limited edition of only 132 medals,
signifying the 132 years since the war ended.
